FITNESS TRAIL OPENS

The Waipa outdoor fitness trail was officially opened yesterday (16/6/15) by Rotorua Lakes Council Sport and Recreation portfolio holder Councillor Charles Sturt.

The fitness trail is located near the Rotorua Mountain Bike carpark and facilities on Waipa State Mill Road.

A Rotorua Lakes Council (RLC) and Red Stag Ltd partnership provided materials for the exercise stations and instruction signs, while Waiariki Institute of Technology (WIT) students were involved in developing and installing the stations, and creating basic exercise instructions.

Each station has instructions for a basic resistance exercise with a space available to add alternate exercises. Programmes will be developed by the Waiariki students and made available for download on The Redwoods website so that users can choose programmes that suit their level of ability and challenge themselves as they get fitter and stronger.

The fitness trail is a great addition to the existing bike and walking tracks in the Whakarewarewa Forest with the ability to add on run/bike circuits as part of an overall training programme.
