Whakarewarewa Forest Loop Great Ride
The Whakarewarewa Forest Loop Great Ride is 35km of easier riding on mostly Grade 2 track with some short pieces of Grade 3, allowing those with minimal riding experience to see all the best that the forest has to offer.
It’s fun, has amazing views, geothermal features and can be enjoyed in smaller sections. Please be warned cutting back through the middle of the loop isn’t a short cut home, the ride circumnavigates a large hilly forestry block. Preplan your ride with the help of the i-site or one of the mountain bike services available in the forest, https://redwoods.co.nz/permits-concessions/endorsed-providers/
Being a loop, there are multiple places to start this ride including the Waipa MTB carpark, Te Putake o Tawa and Tikitapu (Blue Lake) depending on where you want to have lunch, swim or have post ride refreshment.
There are cool stopping points along the way where you can refuel, experience the local culture, history and take in the views.
Being one of only 23 Great Rides nationwide it’s an experience not to be missed.
